Abstract

In three publications by 20-year-old poet Ibero Gutiérrez (1949-1972), written during his time as a political prisoner from 1970, there are, as in a kaleidoscope, multiple angles, up now not very visible, of the 1968 revolt of the young in the Uruguayan context. This precocious artist’s «insurgent writing», imprints poetics in which political action, sexual liberation, psychedelia and philosophy are indissoluble. With a style that cannot now be confused, his texts –all unpublished until his murder at the hands of a «death squad»– are now a precious legacy of Latin American poetry produced during the crossroads of the sixties, has yet to value.
