Editorial Flow

The Journal [sic] accepts submissions of research articles and reviews. In specific cases, it may also accept interviews, testimonials, or reprints of previously published texts.

All submissions undergo a preliminary evaluation by the editorial team. Research articles undergo a double-blind peer-review process.

Since this is a biannual journal, the process from receipt of the manuscript to final publication can take between 6 and 12 weeks.

Process Phases

  1. Reception and Initial Review
  • Authors submit their manuscript through the platform, following the instructions and guidelines for authors, and complete the metadata.
  1. Initial Editorial Evaluation
  • The editorial team conducts a preliminary analysis to determine the manuscript's relevance and suitability to the journal's focus and scope, as well as the minimum quality requirements, and scans it with software to detect similarities with other existing works. In the case of dossiers, guest editors join the initial screening process, along with the rest of the editorial team.
  • If the manuscript does not meet the requirements, it may be rejected at this stage without moving on to the next phase. The author is informed that their manuscript will not continue with the editorial process, with reasons given.
  • If the manuscript meets these minimum requirements, it will move on to the double-blind peer review phase, as detailed below.
  1. Peer Review
  • Once anonymized, the manuscript is assigned to two reviewers, national or international subject matter experts with experience in the subject and language of the article. The reviewers must complete an anonymous review report and determine whether to: a) accept the article for publication without modifications, b) suggest modifications, c) reject it. In the event of discrepancies between the opinions, the text is sent to a third referee, whose opinion will determine whether it is published. The results of the evaluation process are final in all cases. The review period is a maximum of 4 weeks.
  1. Feedback to Authors
  • The authors receive the blind peer review report with the editorial decision and the reviewers' comments, duly anonymized. If the manuscript has not passed this phase of the process and, therefore, is deemed "Not Publishable," it is rejected and the author is informed that their manuscript will not continue with the editorial process, stating the reasons.
  1. Review of Corrections
  • The authors make the modifications suggested by the reviewers and resubmit the manuscript within the timeframe indicated by the coordinator.
  1. Approval
  • The editorial team and the dossier coordinator make the final decision on whether to accept or reject the manuscript, which is duly communicated to the author.
  1. Final Publication
  • Once accepted, the article undergoes a copyediting process, during which the author may be asked to modify, add, or delete an extract. The authors agree to accept and make the requested changes within 15 days or, alternatively, justify a partial disagreement or withdraw the text. The full issue of the journal is sent to the printer for final layout and design.
  • Once the final issue is correct, it is published on the journal's website and the authors are notified. The publication is also communicated on the association's and journal's social media channels. After a few weeks, the dossier is presented online and recorded on the APLU's official YouTube channel.
