Ethics Guidelines

Ethical Guidelines

The journal [sic] is a peer-reviewed publication under a double-blind review system. It believes that ethical principles in the editorial process are essential to maintain the quality and integrity of research texts and strives for good practices in academic publishing following the guidelines established by the Committee on Publications Ethics (COPE). The ethical principles and other policies related to transparency, accountability, intellectual property, accessibility, and copyright, among others, are detailed below.

Author Responsibility and Author Contribution

Authors of a manuscript are considered to be those individuals who have made a significant contribution to the final product. Authors must present the results of rigorous, transparent, and ethical research processes, assuming responsibility for the published research. Their research methods must be described in a way that allows the scientific community to corroborate or replicate the study.

When submitting their work, authors must complete, sign, and attach a Declaration of Authorship stating that their work is original and unpublished. Authors should refrain from submitting the manuscript simultaneously to two or more journals.

If there are two or more authors, they must choose the order in which their names appear on the manuscript. The first author will be considered the primary author and, unless otherwise specified, will be responsible for correspondence with the journal. After the article has been submitted, changes to the list of authors, including the order of the authors and the addition or deletion of authors, can only be made by email to the Editorial Board, explaining the reasons for the changes. For transparency reasons, each author of a manuscript must declare their specific contribution, following the CRediT taxonomy of roles.

Any dispute related to the authorship of a manuscript must be communicated to the journal by email and will be resolved by the Editorial Board and communicated to the parties involved as soon as possible.

Open Science Practices

The journal [sic] adopts open science practices in a variety of ways, including open access publishing, data and information sharing, source code sharing, and open licensing. It encourages the participation of the research community and readers in the journal’s publishing and editing process. It establishes clear and transparent publishing standards to ensure the quality and integrity of articles. It promotes open science at all stages of the editorial process, from submissions to final publication. It also communicates research results to the public, using communication channels such as blogs and social media. These approaches promote transparency, access to research, and collaboration among scientists.

Adherence to Style, Citation, and Bibliographic Reference Standards

Authors always provide the journal with proper acknowledgment of sources and contributions mentioned in the text in accordance with APA 7th Edition standards. Data, figures, tables, photographs, and references to previously published materials are duly identified with their respective credits and included in the bibliographic notes and citations; unpublished data obtained through verbal or written communication are also included.

Responsibility for Content

The editorial team is committed to disseminating the journal's content openly, respecting the authorship and content of its articles. Likewise, the editorial team is committed to managing the editorial process within the established deadlines.

Responsibility for the content of the texts published in the journal [sic] rests exclusively with the authors, who also undertake to conduct a prior review of the most current and relevant scientific literature on the subject studied. The journal does not necessarily assume the opinions expressed in the published works.

Conflicts of Interest

When submitting their manuscripts, authors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest, as well as whether their work has received any funding or financial support from agencies, projects, or individuals, and explain any potential ties to parties interested in the research being considered by the journal.

Reviewers are responsible for alerting the Editorial Board of any conflicts of interest or circumstances that may prevent them from carrying out their work appropriately and objectively.

In cases where a member of the Editorial Board has a conflict of interest or is an interested party in the publication process of an article submitted to the journal, their responsibilities will be replaced by another member of the team, who will be responsible for managing the editorial process independently and without compromising the principles of confidentiality and privacy of information.

Plagiarism Detection

Authors agree to submit original, unpublished articles. This implies the absence of plagiarism (the appropriation of ideas or phrases from others) or self-plagiarism (duplicate publication without attribution or excessive self-citations).

Authors must indicate, in a note on the first page of the submitted article, whether it was prepared from materials available in previous publications, repositories, or on the web. Reused content in manuscripts must be duly referenced according to APA 7th edition citation guidelines. The degree of self-citation allowed will be at the discretion of the editor on a case-by-case basis and in accordance with the aforementioned guidelines.

As part of the initial submission process and formal review of submissions, the journal conducts a plagiarism check of the manuscript using Crossref and Turnitin. If plagiarism or self-plagiarism is detected in an article, the editorial team has the authority to reject the submission outright or contact the authors to request explanations and any necessary adjustments.

When the submitted articles require modifications by the authors —as part of the peer review process—the new version of the work will be subjected to anti-plagiarism software. The actions to be taken in the event of allegations of plagiarism are addressed in the "Corrections, Complaints, and Claims for Malpractice Policy" section.

Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence

Generative artificial intelligence (AI) is not acknowledged as the author of the work, and the ultimate responsibility for the content rests with the signing authors. If AI tools are used, these must be explicitly declared by the authors in the manuscript, in the methods section, or in the final references, detailing which tool was used and for what purpose.

Data Availability

Authors of articles based on original research should report whether the dataset used in their study is available and, if so, where to access it. Possible open data repositories include:  SciELO DataMendeley DataZenodoDANSDataHubFigShare.

Privacy Statement

Names and email addresses entered in this journal will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of this journal and will not be made available to third parties or for any other purpose.

Review and Responsibilities of Reviewers

Articles published in the journal are subject to external peer review by expert reviewers using a double-blind peer review system. Therefore, reviewers undertake to referee articles voluntarily and honorarily, contributing to improving the quality of the work through an objective and constructive review. They must be free of conflicts of interest related to the study being reviewed. They must follow the evaluation guidelines provided by the journal and comply with both the policies of the evaluation process and the deadlines stipulated for the task.

Papers submitted for review are confidential until the date of publication. Under no circumstances may the information, details, arguments, or interpretations contained in the text under review be disseminated or used for the benefit of the reviewer or others, or to harm third parties. Only in special cases may they request the advice of other specialists in the field, for which they must first request authorization from the journal's editors. Confidentiality ends with the publication of the text.

Ethical Oversight and Responsibility of the Editorial Team

The responsible coordinator and the Editorial Board must maintain impartiality when managing papers submitted for publication and must respect the intellectual independence of the authors of those papers approved for peer review.

The coordinators will ensure that articles are reviewed by expert peers in the field, clearly informing them of publication standards and respecting the confidentiality and anonymity of the peer review process. Editors may not distribute copies of a manuscript under review to anyone outside the review process, nor may they cite the material in their own publications until it has been accepted and published. Manuscripts submitted for review must comply with the international ethical standards set by the American Psychological Association and the Declaración de Helsinki.

Members of the editorial board or the journal's coordinators cannot be reviewers of submitted manuscripts. If a member of the editorial board decides to submit a paper, it must undergo the double review process anonymously. The guest coordinator cannot publish a text of their own authorship or as a co-author in the issue of the journal in which they are listed as coordinator.

The journal has the right to make any necessary corrections after the article has been published. Disputes due to violations of these standards of ethics in research and publication will be analyzed and resolved by the editorial board at the suggestion of the journal's editor.

Complaints or complaints against the journal, its staff, the Editorial Board, or the editor in charge can be sent to revistaaplu@gmail.com
