Abstract

This article discusses the origins of Ildefonso Pereda Valdés’ “negrismo”, focusing on his relationship with European Avant-Garde and with Pedro Figari’s work. The importance of visual arts on Pereda Valdés’ early work is analyzed, as well as his representation of blackness in "La guitarra de los negros".
