About the Journal
Aims and Scope
[sic] is a biannual refereed journal of Literature and Art, edited by the Association of Literature Teachers of Uruguay. Unprinted and original articles that present research results in the field of literary studies, the teaching of literature, the humanities and art in general are published. Reviews of books, interviews, testimonies or literary recoveries are also accepted, depending on the guidelines of the coordinators and the Editorial Board. The issues are thematic dossiers and have a guest coordinator, a specialist in the topic covered.
Published since 2011, [sic] is aimed at teachers, researchers, university students and professionals linked to the area of literature, human sciences and education. The publication of content that highlights the relationships between literature, art, and education, as well as their connection to other related humanities, is encouraged.
The Articles section presents a monographic topic approved by the Editorial Board, which may arise through an initiative of the guest coordinator, respond to an open call, or address a current thematic need. The Reviews section publishes critical texts on new bibliographical works that come to the attention of the journal. Issues of the publication may include an interview, a testimonial, or the reprinting of a previously published text.
Publication Frequency
The journal is published twice-yearly (publishes issues in July and December), online in all cases (ISBN: 1688-9398), although previously it was also released in printed format (ISBN: 1688-938X) and it published three issues a year (April, August, December).
Peer-review Process
[sic] has a stable and international editorial board of experts in the main areas, independent of the APLU board. It also has a permanent council of readers, with both nationally and internationally renowned academics from various countries, in addition to reviewers invited by the coordinators for each thematic issue.
Articles are refereed by the double-blind peer review, anonymously, according to a staggered chain of work: first, the articles are reviewed by the Editorial Board and the Coordinator and only those that comply with the academic and editorial standards of the Journal are sent to readers. The journal uses the "double-blind peer review" protocol, in which the authors do not know the evaluators and the readers do not know who they are evaluating. In this instance, each work is read by at least two experts on the subject, who determine: a) accept the article for publication without modifications, b) suggest modifications, c) reject. In case of discrepancies between the opinions, the text is sent to a third referee, whose opinion will define whether or not to publish it. The results of the evaluation process are final in all cases. Thirdly, the article goes through a style correction process, in which the author can be asked to modify, add or delete an excerpt. The authors undertake to accept and make the requested changes within 15 days or instead justify a partial discrepancy or withdraw the text. Finally, the work is published on the journal's website.
[sic] publishes articles in Spanish, English and Portuguese. If the article is accepted by the Editorial Board and passes the arbitration process, the authors undertake to ensure the quality of the final version of the text. As for other languages, the journal reserves its consideration; If accepted, the translation conditions will be agreed with the authors.
